The 30-plus-knot 60 with an all-carbon superstructure harkens a sea change for the iconic builder.
It’s always nice to read an in-depth review in which the author has really taken the time to understand the product they’re reviewing. In the November issue of Yachting Magazine, editor Kevin Koenig has done precisely that, making multiple international trips while he followed the progress of the GB60 development, from touring our upgraded factory during its construction, to then also visiting Sydney for the unveiling of hull #1 at the Sydney International Boat Show in August.
“Even at top speed, the 60’s ride was smooth and confidence-inducing. And interestingly, the fine-entry hull barely throws a wake. It’s an act of nautical ninjutsu that has mesmerized me over the years as I’ve tested Richards’ hulls.” – Kevin Koenig
Throughout the eight-page spread, Koenig takes a look at the GB60’s new construction techniques that use fully-infused carbon fibre and vinlyester resins to benefit strength and rigidity while reducing the vessel’s weight above the shear line to enhance stability. He also notes his astonishment on seeing the way the hull form slips through the water with an almost indiscernible flat wake, a reaction we get all the time as disbelievers experience the smoothness and efficiency of the design couple with the performance and hydrodynamics we have spent countless hours finessing.
Take a look at the article on Yachting Magazine’s website here, and check out our upcoming events so you can see a GB60 in person. You can also contact one of our yacht consultants near you to arrange a demonstration sea trial so you can experience a ride you will not believe.
